Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: RPA’s Strengths and New Directions

RPA Membership Roundtable

May 10, 2025 | 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
12929 San Pablo Ave, Richmond, CA 94804

RPA has a long history of working to change Richmond politics. We’ve been active on national issues, including immigration, sanctuary, banking reform, environmental sustainability, and advancing progressive politics. RPA member Steve Early will join us and discuss his chapter about RPA in The Political Economy of California: A Reader in Politics, Economics, and Social Policy. Early has been an RPA member since 2012 and is the author of five books, including Refinery Town.

Early will share some of his analysis of RPA as he traces our history of being part of a broader movement, how we have run our organization (helping electeds do their jobs, developing allies, working on a team, etc.), the topics we choose to embrace (reimagining public safety, backing popular ballot measures, linking local issues to global ones, among others), how we learn from our successes as well as survive defeats, and more. We will review where we’ve been, offer our own perspectives of where we stand today, and propose next steps for our organization.

Join the conversation and bring your ideas to the table.
