Strategic Planning Facilitator

RPA Strategic Planning Request for Proposals

The Richmond Progressive Alliance (RPA) is an independent progressive organization that seeks to unite Richmond’s diverse communities and form alliances with other community-based organizations to actively promote social justice, economic equality, health, environmental protection, and democracy.

We are a member based unincorporated nonprofit organization focused on political work and action that functions through an elected steering committee, action teams, and hired staff.

Since our founding, our main focus has been removing city government from the control of corporations and electing city leaders who put people before profits. Over two decades of work, we have had many wins that have included electing a super majority to city council out of which our endorsees do not accept corporate donations.

We are at a critical juncture of visioning the future of our work in Richmond and are seeking a skilled facilitator who can help us create a 2 year strategic plan for our work ahead.

Project Scope

Our goal for this project is to create a 2 year strategic plan that addresses the following:

  • A review of the Mission, vision, platforms
  • An audit of ongoing RPA activities and projects
  • The creation of a membership program designed to grow our base and politically engage our members

These goals would be accomplished through a combination of the following:

  • Organized small group listening sessions
  • One to two day- long in person meetings

The written strategic plan should be an actionable roadmap with clear goals, activities, and roles assigned to individuals or groups within the organization.

Who we are looking to hire

We are looking for a consultant who has experience working with unincorporated member-led nonprofit organizations to build out the strategic planning process with us and facilitate the necessary conversations to arrive at our goals.

We are looking for someone who understands the ways white supremacy culture and values permeate organizational structures and how to dismantle those.

  • Ability to handle and celebrate conflict resolution
  • Value consensus building

  • Experience working with organizations that do electoral work and run campaigns
  • Preferable work experience in Richmond, CA (we will need someone able to meet in person)
  • BIPOC individuals highly encouraged to apply
